AUGUST 2012 NEWSLETTER

What is the next step on the path to Miami for the applicants to the 12th Dranoff International 2 Piano Competition?

Tens of thousands of hours of practice.
Millions of notes committed to memory.

All applicants will send an unedited DVD of a 45 minute recital to the first round of the selection process. This will take place in New York under the auspices of the Artistic Directors of the Competition, Aglika Genova and Liuben Dimitrov, along with Ed Turgeon, American Round judge, Martin Bookspan, the chair of the Artistic Advisory Board, and Carlene Sawyer, the Executive Director. By the end of that process, we will notify contestants if they made it to the live auditions in any of the three cities: Beijing, Hannover or Chicago.

In this newsletter, meet Volker Stenzl, half of the Piano Duo Stenzl. Volker and Hans Peter were winners in the second competition in 1989. They went on to an outstanding recording and performance career, and today are among the world's most successful and respected teachers of the artform.

Do you recall the marketing survey we did a few months ago? The results have given us invaluable insights in the arts audiences of Miami to help us define much more clearly our marketing and artistic decisions.

And of course, there is an actual winner of the drawing for a weekend at our partner hotel, The Betsy of South Beach. Dr. Marc Lipman and his wife will have the chance to be tourists in their hometown. Congratulations!

We are very proud to announce three new board members: Anne Green and Alexander Tecle have joined the Foundation Board, and John Rooney has joined the Executive Board. Please contact me about how to become more involved with us, volunteer or join a committee.

Our new season will begin at the end of October with a fantastically different concert by Sandra Mol & Jeroen Van Veen. They will perform the Canto Ostinato by Simeon ten Holt, a concert they have carried throughout the Netherlands to sold out houses and rave reviews. Like over there, it will be an outdoors concert, at Tropical Park in collaboration with the Parks Department, and like over there, you can bring our favorite blanket and lay down while listening. More details will come in the September newsletter.
Thank you to those who already made pledges.

Please contact me or Carlene Sawyer, our Executive Director, at 305.572.9900 to find how you can contribute to the foundation in general, and to the competition in particular.
Please be sure to share the newsletter with your friends. Become an ambassador for this unique, beautiful art form.

See you where the music plays!

Gabriele Fiorentino
