JUNE 2014

An integral part of our mission is to commission new works. This year marks the first time we collaborated with Bacardi, a company with a history of supporting music, in commissioning a jazz piece. Labeled "Bacardi Choice", Martin Bejerano's Fantasia de tres mundos is the perfect reflection of Miami - rooted on American soil, influenced by the European heritage and infused with Afro-Cuban flavor.

Fulfilling our mission of career development for the International Competition laureates has taken on a new facet. For the first time, we have arranged a tour in Latin America. Part I (in April/May) took Duo Yamamoto to Brazil, Uruguay and Argentina. Yuka and Ayaka Yamamoto charmed audiences with their musicality, youth and technical chops.

Recorded and produced by WFMT Radio Network during the 12th International Competition in May 2013, the 8 hour radio program The Power of Two premiered on Classical South Florida stations in November 2013. To date, it has been aired in 100 radio markets in the United States to 28 million listeners.

We kicked off the radio series with Salon concerts in New York , and in Coral Gables.

There are more details, videos and pictures from the past season below, which I hope you enjoy both to reminisce, and to whet your appetite for the next season.

The road ahead bring duos from Germany, Taiwan, Italy and Holland come to Miami to play 5 concerts in venues from South Dade to Aventura. Last, but not least, Piano Slam 7.
Outside of Miami, the Latin American Tour Part II will take the three winning duos of the 12th Competition - Duo Yamamoto, Duo Yoo & Kim, Duo imPuls - to Columbia, Peru and Chile in the Fall of 2014.

We are now working on the second in a series of Bacardi Choice commissions. Further, we have applied for a grant to commission the Miami born composer Ellen Taaffee Zwillich, who was the first woman to win the Pulitzer Prize for Music. You will be the first to know about it in this newsletter!

I hope this review validates your involvement with the Dranoff. I invite you to be part of securing the future of this Miami organization that presents one of the Hemisphere's most respected international music competitions while we also serve our community's young people with a music and poetry performance program and our audiences with wonderful, unusual concert experiences.

Please make your pledge now, and please feel free to contact me anytime with your questions or thoughts. I look forward to a conversation with you! In the meantime - Happy Summer!

Warm regards,

Gabriele Fiorentino
