DECEMBER  2015

"When will I be finished learning music, Maestro?
Never.
Never?
You will never know all there is to know. You will learn until your final days. Then you will inspire someone else. This is what an artist does.
What does inspire mean?
It means you will make someone love music the way you love it.
And they will want to play like me?
Perhaps.
Can I really do that?
Not with all this talking.
Lo siento, Maestro.
...
All right, then. Begin..."

Mitch Albom, The magic strings of Frankie Presto

Dear Friend -

This is the last newsletter of 2015. And as we always do at the end of something - an era, a meal, a relationship, a concert - we look back. And we also look forward.

From the seedlings planted by a few passionate community leaders and visionaries just a few decades ago has evolved a community that appreciates and strengthens its own talents and treasures. Many people have invested in those talents, and while some such investment may be profit driven, more has been made from the realization that negative forces in society can be counterbalanced and positive forces can be amplified by engagement in art and in culture. We cannot know all the answers, but we do know how much music in particular helps us be connected and helps us find moments of joy in even a difficult environment.

For us too, this was a year when much has come to fruition that was planted years ago. A vibrant series of concerts showcased the talents and chops of the artists Dranoff Competitions helped discover and broadened the exposure of music for 2 pianos. Please read below a complete synopsis of the 2014/2015 Concert Season.

The 2016 season was rung in, or should I say, "played in", with two semi-private events to celebrate the season, and its supporters. The previous newsletter showed photos of the wonderful October Salon Concert hosted by former Coral Gables Mayor Don Slesnick and his wife, Commissioner Jeannett. Below, find photos of the November Salon Concert hosted by my husband Patrick and I to thank our season ticket buyers and supporters.

Many of you have stepped up and made a gift to us in the Miami Foundation's Give Miami Day 2015. This exemplifies what I touched upon above - a community valuing its treasures. Thank you!

We look forward to what Mitch Albom touches upon: passion and inspiration. These are not just empty words. The artists who will play for you are all truly driven to make others love music the way they do. They have dedicated their professional lives - and often their personal lives - to inspire others to follow in their footsteps and be passionately involved.

I am proud to share with you our accomplishments last year, and I invite you to be involved with us this year. I promise you new things to learn, new friends to make, and new inspirations to find. Let's begin!

Warm regards,

Gabriele Fiorentino
President, Dranoff Board
